Core 2 Duo E7200 - Budget overclocking delight

Although only planned to arrive in the second half of the year, this new E7200 model is a new 45nm "Wolfdale" core running at 2.53GHz. It has a 9.5x multiplier with a 1066MHz FSB, hence the overclocking delight part.
With most, currently available, motherboards capable of native 1333MHz FSB, that would mean 3.16GHz with this CPU, the same clock as the E8500. The also easily achievable FSB1600 that most midrange motherboards are capable would catapult it to an impressive clock of 3.8GHz, nothing difficult for 45nm CPUs.

But, there had to be a downside. In this one it is the L2 cache size, that has been reduced from 6MB to 3MB, halfway between the two versions of the "Conroe". As such, expect a performance drop of around 10%, easily neutralized by the overclocking capabilities of the 45nm core.

No price estimates are available for now.
